Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this package different from regular Ladakh tours?

This package covers remote areas that most Ladakh tours don't include: 1) Turtuk Village - the last village before Pakistan border with unique Balti culture, 2) Hanle - home to India's highest astronomical observatory, 3) Tsomoriri Lake - a pristine high-altitude lake less visited than Pangong. It's designed for travelers who want to explore beyond the usual tourist circuit and experience the authentic, remote Ladakh.

Are permits required for Turtuk, Hanle & Tsomoriri?

Yes, special permits are required for these areas as they are near international borders. We handle all permit arrangements for you. For Indian citizens, we need passport/ID copies and photographs in advance. For international travelers, additional permits and passport copies are required. All permit costs are included in the package price.

What kind of accommodation is available in remote areas?

In remote areas like Turtuk, Hanle, and Tsomoriri, accommodation options are basic but comfortable: 1) Homestays in Turtuk offering authentic Balti culture experience, 2) Guesthouses in Hanle with basic amenities, 3) Swiss camps or guest houses at Tsomoriri. While facilities are simpler than in Leh, all places provide clean bedding, warm blankets, and attached bathrooms where possible. It's part of the adventure experience!

How challenging are the drives to these remote areas?

The drives are adventurous but safe with our experienced drivers: 1) Roads are mostly well-maintained but can be rough in sections, 2) Distances are long (5-9 hours driving daily), 3) Altitudes are high (up to 18,380 ft at Khardung La), 4) Some areas have military checkpoints. Our SUVs are well-maintained, drivers are highly experienced, and we include ample rest stops. Not recommended for those with severe motion sickness.

What should I pack for this tour?

Essential packing list: 1) Warm clothing (temperatures can drop below freezing), 2) Good quality trekking shoes, 3) Sun protection (SPF 50+ sunscreen, sunglasses, hat), 4) Personal medications and basic first aid, 5) Power banks (charging facilities limited in remote areas), 6) Cash (ATMs not available in remote areas), 7) Valid ID documents for permits, 8) Camera with extra batteries, 9) Reusable water bottle, 10) Snacks for long drives.

Is this tour suitable for families with children?

The tour is suitable for families with children aged 12+, but requires consideration: 1) Long driving hours each day, 2) High altitudes that can affect children more, 3) Basic facilities in remote areas, 4) Adventure-oriented itinerary. For families with younger children, we recommend our Classic Ladakh SUV Trip which is less strenuous. For this specific tour, we recommend children be at least 12 years old and in good health.
